Lesson 14 Jesus the Bread of Life John 6:31-59
John records the sayings of Jesus without trying to explain them. He uses them as ‘signs’ to show Jesus’ power as the Son of God and to point people to the truth and reality of his claims. We can say that the height of Jesus’ popularity was reached with the feeding of the 5,000 and that his teachings on the bread of life and eating his flesh and drinking his blood marked the downturn of his popularity. He was teaching these things in the Synagogue in Capernaum.
Question 1 Jesus is talking to the people about God and the need to believe in his Son and that only the true bread from heaven gives life V32-33, 35-40 Which kind of bread are the people talking about? V30,31,34,41,42
Question 3 We are talking about ‘teachers feeding students with knowledge’ and students being ‘thirsty for more knowledge’. Is this the kind of feeding and drinking Jesus was talking about?
Question 4 What is more important a) that we fully understand what Jesus is saying about ‘eating his flesh and drinking his blood’ OR b) that we believe in him as the Son of God and have eternal life?
